Rossana Calvi
While pursuing classical studies at secondary school, she took up the oboe, obtained her diploma as a private student and won, at the age of twenty-one, the post of Principal Oboe of the ORT Orchestra della Toscana which she left in 1997 having won and accepted the post of Principal Oboe of the Orchestra del Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice. At the same time she engaged in further studies with Maurice Bourgue at the Conservatoire de Musique de Ginève where she was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuositè.
In 1998 she was a winner of the 54th Geneva International Music Competition.
In her role as Principal Oboe, she collaborates regularly with some of the most prestigious European orchestras: the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and La Filarmonica della Scala, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra, The Bavarian State Orchestra, the Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphonieorchester, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. For many years she has been a member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the invitation of Ivan Fischer.This is in addition to her appearances as a soloist in Italy and Europe: for years she has collaborated with I Solisti Veneti with which she has performed in many parts of the world. She has performed accompanied by the Orchestra della Toscana, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, and the Somon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela under the baton of Claudio Abbado. She has performed all the major concertos for Oboe e Orchestra with the Orchestra del Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
She has been the woodwind coach at various orchestral training courses and , at the invitation of Josè Antonio Abreu, she began her enthusiastic participation in a project of the Sistema Nacional para las Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela.
