Amerigo Bernardi

Amerigo Bernardi - ContrabbassoAmerigo Bernardi - ContrabbassoHe was born in Florence in 1972. He studied at the Scuola di Musica in Fiesole with Libero Lanzilotta and Alberto Bocini. He earned his diploma at the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini in 1994. He was Principal Double Bass with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana for the 1991-1992 season. At a very early age he began collaborating with the ORT (Orchestra della Toscana) and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and serving as Principal Double Bass.

He is currently Principal Double Bass with the Orchestra Symphonica d'Italia playing under the baton of Lorin Maazel and performs in the same position with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre National de Lyon. He has been repeatedly invited to perform with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. His extensive chamber music activities include collaboration with musicians such as Enrico Dindo (I Solisti di Pavia), Mario Brunello, Andrea Lucchesini, Danilo Rossi, Yuri Bashmet, and Gidon Kremer, among others.


He is a founding member of the Bass Gang, a highly-acclaimed double bass quartet with which he has participated in numerous recordings (CDs, DVDs, etc.) and tours around the world.
He teaches double bass at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali Achille Peri in Reggio Emilia.
